Mission, Vision & Core Values
Everything we do at SCBDD starts with a clear purpose: to serve individuals with developmental disabilities and their families across Sandusky County in a way that is person-centered, collaborative, and built on lasting relationships.
Our mission, vision, and core values reflect that commitment.
Our Mission
To support and advocate for people with developmental disabilities and their families in Sandusky County through quality services, resources, and community partnerships that promote inclusion, independence, and self-determination throughout their lives.
Our Vision
A Sandusky County where all people with developmental disabilities are valued members of their communities, empowered to pursue their goals and live with dignity, belonging, and opportunity.
Our Core Values
Person-Centered
We believe every individual is unique, and every decision we make begins with the person we serve. We listen before we plan, we honor individual goals and preferences, and we design supports that reflect the whole person — not just a diagnosis. Our work is always guided by what matters most to the individual and their family.
Leadership
We are committed to being a trusted resource and leading voice for individuals with developmental disabilities in Sandusky County. We take initiative, stay informed, and work to model excellence in service, advocacy, and community engagement for other organizations in our region.
Collaboration
No one organization can do this work alone. We actively partner with families, school districts, community agencies, providers, employers, and other county boards to create a network of support that’s stronger together. When we work in partnership, we achieve more for the people we serve.
Responsibility
We are responsible stewards of public trust and public funding. We hold ourselves accountable for the quality and integrity of every service we provide, and we take seriously our obligation to the individuals, families, and taxpayers who depend on us to do this work well.
Excellence
We don’t settle for adequate. We pursue excellence in our programs, in our professional development, and in the experiences of everyone who interacts with SCBDD. We regularly evaluate our services, seek feedback, and look for ways to improve so that the people we serve receive the best possible support.
Relationship
Great services are built on great relationships. We invest in knowing the individuals and families we serve, building trust with our community partners, and creating a workplace where staff feel valued and supported. Relationship is not just a value — it’s how we do our work.
